Census Collector

The role, recruitment process and timescales

As a Census Collector (CC) you will be responsible for contacting householders - knocking on doors or ringing doorbells - to follow up the non-return of 2011 Census questionnaires. This will involve face-to-face discussions to encourage the completion and return of census questionnaires and to offer help and assistance if required. You will be required to work at varied times including evenings and weekends.

To help you carry out this work to the high standard required, you will receive detailed instructions and be fully trained. You will be part of a team reporting to a Census Coordinator (CO) while carrying out this role. The post involves working outside for most of your day visiting a number of addresses. You may need to climb stairs to reach some of these. You will need to carry with you a bag of spare questionnaires and other supplies.

Period of Employment

Census Collectors will be employed in two batches. Either 21/03/2011 to 06/05/2011 or 06/04/2011 to 06/05/2011

Working Pattern

Full time (37 hours per week), part time (25 hours per week) or very part time (15 hours per week).

Salary

From £7.41 to £10.42 depending on location.

SiftAbility Online test All candidates that meet the basic eligibility criteria for the post will be invited to complete an online situational judgement test. The test is designed to assess if candidates have the skills required for the post to which they have applied. Full instructions will be included in the invitation to complete the test.

Invitation will include details of the specific date by which test will need to be completed by.

Interview - Short-listed candidates will be invited to complete a telephone interview. Interviews will be available at a range of times including days, evenings & weekends.

Conditional Offer and pre employment enquires - Candidates are required at this stage to send in photocopies of ID documents and a passport sized photo. References will be sought at this stage.

E-Learning - completed online (approx 3 hours).

February / March 2011

Attend classroom training - Classroom training is half a day in duration

March / April 2011

Offer and contract of employment - Once classroom training has been completed a contract of employment will be issued and new starters will be required to commit to terms and conditions of a Census Confidentiality Undertaking.
